Script:Pssst….Teachers, wanna hear a secret? Okay, Okay! I’ll tell ya! I have a way to keep your students engaged and make the endless repetition of teaching vanish! No, it’s not magic, It’s the Canyons District Technology Endorsement Program.
From start to finish, these technology classes are enjoyable, entertaining, and learner centered. The knowledge you will gain is immense, and your time will definitely be well spent.
When I started the Technology Endorsement program, I had high expectations. Yet, this program exceeded them. I was able to take my personal technological abilities to a whole new level, which, in turn, gave me the ability to use my technology in my classroom with confidence.
The instructors of the classes were very knowledgeable, and I loved being able to collaborate on a variety projects with my colleagues.
My students went from playing games during computer time to creating major projects like podcasts, stop motion animations, and even movies. These projects gave them something they could be proud of rather than a grade on another multiple choice test.
I learned how to create an environment where students were excited to come to school. I mean seriously, How often does that happen?
Even parents could see a difference. They loved seeing their child’s projects during conferences and online using a blog I learned how to create at the beginning of the endorsement program.
So, I guess the question is… Would I recommend this class to other teachers and achievement coaches? Yes, Of Course , without a doubt. The endorsement program was amazing but even more than that, the friendships gained will l gained will last a life time.
Oops…Gotta go, class is about to start.

Mrs. Clyde's Class
Mrs. Clyde's Fantastic Class created a Wordle using Christmas words they have been studying.
Contribution Project-Donor's Choose
In order for me to be able to help teachers in the three schools I work in put in for a Donor's Choose grant, I thought I better practice first. Therefore, I created an account for my mother's Spanish class and designed a Donor's Choose Project for them. The class has already been funded by two people, and I am hoping it will continue on to be funded fully. I saw the project idea of foreign language classes creating a Soap Opera on youtube.com, and thought it would be a engaging project for my mom's class to try. Unfortunately, they did not have video cameras. This is why the grant was written.
K12 Conference
Listening to the K12 conference, was a new experience for me. I have attended many conferences live, but I really liked being able to listen to these conferences at my own leisure. I could start a conference, and if it pertained to me, I could continue listening. If it didn't, I could move on to a conference that better suited me.
It was interesting to hear all of the different ideas that people used to incorporate technology into the classroom. The underlining theme that I found was that they all had technology. That is why it is so important to continue to write grants. A teacher alone cannot afford technology, but with the help of others, they can get the equipment they need/want.

Article Activity
In our Article Activity group, I think Dustin, Jared, Bobie, and I worked very well together. The lesson seemed like it flowed smoothly, and I think we were a great example for groups to come.
I thought the score that we received was fair because we followed the rubric standards and met the requirements. Being that I was at a funeral, I feel bad that I was not there to help with the preparation for this activity much. I am glad that I had such a flexible group and that they were willing to work with me to make the lesson successful.
What is an Article Activity?
(60 Minute Activity)
Bobie introduces the activity – explaining all steps. Make sure to explain how this activity covers each of the following steps. (5 Minutes)
What is an Article Activity?
1. Explaining - One person from the group explains the entire article activity.
2. Demonstrate tools for the activity.
3. Creatively grouping participants.
4. Reading the article or part of the article.
5. Discussing what has been read with small group.
6. Using a tool to demonstrate what you learned in the article.
7. Summarizing & Sharing. One person from the group summarizes the activity, leading the whole group in a discussion/wrap-up. Share what has been created with other participants.
Details on today’s Activity
1. Creatively grouping participants.
a. You picked your partner in the opening activity.
2. Demonstrate Tools
a. Wordle: http://www.wordle.net/ (Jared demonstrates 5 minutes max)
b. Tagxedo: http://www.tagxedo.com/ (Chandra demonstrates 5 minutes max)
i. Show example of how to create a Tagxedo using a whale project.
3. Read the article.
a. http://learningforward.org/docs/pdf/standardsreferenceguide.pdf
b. http://www.qotfc.edu.au/resource/index.html?page=65375
c. Each partner reads one of the articles. Can’t decide who is going to read which? (Rock-Paper-Scissor)
4. Discussing what has been read with small group. (In this case it will be partners discussing the article they read.)
a. Each partner shares with the other what was in their article.
5. Create a Wordle or Tagxedo with important information from the articles.
Wrap-Up: Dustin summarizes the activity, leads the whole in some sort of summary discussion. Share the products created.

Exploratorium Activity
I think our group did an exceptional job working as a team. We were able to build off of each others skills, and help each other with questions we had. Although our group worked well together, we kind of each completed our part and then brought it together as a group presentation.
I feel great about the score we received on the Exploratorium. I feel like we all did very well on our presentation.
Here is the outline we used for the Exploratorium:
What is an Exploratorium?
Bobie give the overview. (2-3 Minutes Max)
1. It comes from the word "Explore!" It is time to engage participants & explore a specific topic. You are creating an activity where the participants will explore resources and somehow engage with those resources. The website "Cool Tools for Schools" might give you an idea of tools/software/apps you might want to use for this section. http://cooltoolsforschools.wikispaces.com/
2. You will create a list of online resources/articles that help us to learn more about our topic.
a. So tonight, you will be exploring “Cool Tools for Schools” in order to find resources that you might want to share in a professional development session with your teachers. (Chandra demonstrates site – 2-3 Minutes Max and also shows where other links for the night are at – Agenda for October 23 in Open Classroom—links are below as well.)
i. jeopardylabs.com
ii. buildyourwildself.com
b. In addition, the following list of professional development websites will help you learn more about training adult learners.
3. You will want to have a mobile application or software program that engages the participants somehow.
a. AppShopper and Apps Gone Free as a way to learn about new apps that you might want to share in a professional development session with your teachers. (Jared demonstrates apps. Links to app downloads are on the 23rd Open Class Agenda. 2-3 Minutes Max)
4. You will have 30 minutes to explore.
5. You must set up the Exploratorium in a creative and engaging manner, with a product-based activity that participants must accomplish during the session.
a. Share on the discussion board.
Dustin – will summarizes the activity, leads the whole in some sort of summary discussion. (5 minutes Max.)

Assessing Pixie
I chose to do Pixie for my choice assignment. Pixie is a program that is new to Canyons District, and I thought it would be great to go into a class and demo it with them. Not only is Pixie very user friendly, but it also has many template that teachers could easily use to assess their students. Pixie was fun and engaging for the students and they can’t wait to get back to the computer lab to work on their project. I like that Pixie gives teachers the opportunity for an alternate type of assessment. It is not a multiple choice test, it is so much more.
The students have not finished their projects yet, but I think as soon as they do, it will be a great way for the teacher to analyze what parts the students actually understand, and what parts need to be clarified or retaught. By using a rubric, students will know what is expected of them and what they need to strive towards.

Learner Analysis Document
Below is a Learner Analysis Document I used to analyze a 5th grade class at Edgemont Elementary. I used students' initials to protect the names. I used Data Dashboard last year. I found it very beneficial because I could quickly see where my students were excelling, and where they may need work. I really liked that I could do comparisons with the 5th grade as well as the district with just a few clicks of the button. It was also easy for me to create goals for the class. I liked being able to look at the graphs and click on a certain graph and it would show me the results of that graph. For example, if I noticed that I had a kid who was not on bench mark, I could click on the red part of the graph and it would show which student did not meet the bench mark. Then, I could easily make sure that I was working with those students to try to bring them up.
One thing I did not like about the Data Dashboard was that I could not find a spot that told me what the bench mark was for each category. It would have been nice to know how far off the students were from meeting the bench mark.

Comic Life
Comic life is a great for digital story telling. It is available on the computer or iPad. Although the computer version is more complex and there are more options with it, the iPad still had very fun and exciting capabilities. I think that the students would really enjoy using Comic Life.

Map from Water Shed Project
In this activity, we went on a field trip to 5 different water shed sites. We took data and pictures at each site, and then compiled all of the information using BaseCamp, Excel, and ArcGIS. The results are shown on the map below.
Data from Watershed Project
GPS-Tree Project
In this project, we worked as a group to map the trees at the District Office. We used a GPS to track the long and lat. We also tracked the size, type, etc. We connected the GPS into BaseCamp. From BaseCamp, we exported and opened the file in Excel. In Excel we added extra information, and then saved the file again. Next, we opened up the file in ArcGIS. From here, we were able to add layers of information we wanted. This allows us to track the trees. The picture below is a picture of the trees that were tracked.
